STORYWALK 2021 - SEPTEMBER 19 - OCTOBER 31
A collaborative project of the Wilson County Master Gardeners, the Wilson Botanical Gardens, the Wilson County Public Library, and Medlin Buick GMC Mazda.
STORYWALK is a children’s book mounted page-by-page onto signs, which will be set up at the Wilson Botanical Gardens in celebration of Take A Child Outside Week, September 24-30, 2021. This year’s Storywalk features the book Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, a story about a colorful fall leaf character flying across the landscape, going wherever the wind blows. The book is geared towards children aged 5-8, but the whole family will enjoy reading the story and using their imaginations.
Collaboration between our partners allows several important community goals to be met: childhood literacy, getting children and families to enjoy being outdoors in a natural setting, and moving around getting some exercise. Our organizations can spread the word about this project to a large portion of our community through their contact lists, and we hope positive publicity from other sources can spread the word even further afield.
Storywalk is free and accessible to all at the Wilson Botanical Gardens, located at the Wilson County Agricultural Center, 1806 S. Goldsboro St, Wilson. This Storywalk will start at the accessible entrance of the Children’s Secret Garden and will wind through that garden, ending at our butterfly topiary. The Gardens are open 365 days a year from dawn to dusk. Weather permitting the Storywalk will remain in the Gardens from September 19 until October 31, 2021.
