Tax Office Updates

2024-2025 Fiscal Year
The 2024-2025 fiscal year started July 1, 2024. With the new fiscal year, all local government jurisdictions have updated their 2024 tax rates and provided this information to our office. Over the month of July, our office is working to finalize the 2024 tax assessments for all real and personal property in the the County. The 2024 tax bills are scheduled to be mailed out by the middle of August. Wilson County and the City of Wilson

Wilson County is located approximately 35 minutes east of the state's capital of Raleigh, North Carolina. The County of Wilson has a population of 81,000 plus residents and growing. Its total area covers some 373 square miles.

County Seat

The County seat is the City of Wilson with over 50,000 residents and growing. It covers an area of 14.2 square miles. Wilson County has an automatic Real Estate Listing System with approximately 41,000 parcels.

Wilson County Tax Department is also the collection agency for 9 municipalities located within the County, two Solid Waste taxes, 2 Special Districts and 15 Fire Districts.

FAQs

What will happen if I don't pay the Motor Vehicle registration and tax by the due date?

The due date is the expiration date of your vehicle's registration, so you may get a ticket for driving a vehicle with expired tags. Interest will also accrue on your vehicle's property tax and you'll have to pay a late fee when you renew your vehicle's registration.
How do I pay Taxes? (Refer to "What about my Motor Vehicle Taxes?" for Motor Vehicles)
Currently, there are four ways to pay your real estate and personal property tax bills:
1. In person: 113 Nash St E, Wilson, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.
2. By mail:

  Partial Payments: Wilson County Tax Collector, PO Box 1162, Wilson, NC 27894-1162

4. By phone: Call toll free 1-800-272-9829 (1-800-2PAYTAX), Jurisdiction Code: 4361.
There is a convenience fee for using the on-line and phone services. This fee is charged and retained by a private company to process the card payments. Cards accepted: Visa, MasterCard, Discover and AMEX along with Electronic Checks.
Who is Required to list property?

Every individual, guardian, trustee, estate, unincorporated association, corporation or partnership owning tangible personal property or real estate that has been improved or has had additions and is subject to taxation under North Carolina Law. All property owned on January 1st is taxable for the entire year and the owner as of January 1st is responsible for the tax bill for the entire year.
