A History of Helping Families

Founded in 1925, the Wilson County Department of Social Services has advanced from the Wilson County Welfare Office to one of the most advanced departments of social services agencies in North Carolina.

In earlier years and through 1993, our agency serviced our citizens through five separate buildings throughout downtown Wilson. In September, 1993 a new human services facility opened, with all programs in a central location. Since that time, we have maintained a modern office complex with the latest technology, while keeping our customers at the focus of our services.

Adapting With the Changes

Anticipating the ever-changing need of human services requires connecting to our customers, caring about their well being, and consistently using technology to improve our efficiency. We welcome you to a place where new ideas are embraced, professional relationships are fostered, and careers succeed!

We have made a positive impact on the lives of children, families, and seniors for over 80 years. As we move forward with innovative ideas, family-centered care, and a focus on improving lives, we maintain our core social work values treating every person with dignity and respect.

Even today, our heritage of helping others moves forward with a future that is focused on families!
