County households receiving new trash permits
The pink permits will remain valid until December 31, 2025. The permit allows residents to utilize any of the 13 convenience centers throughout the county for household garbage and recycling in addition to the landfill.
Permits are issued every three years using different colors. Residents living in unincorporated areas are charged $45.00 per year. The fee is listed as Solid Waste Availability Fee or "SWAF” on property owners’ tax bills.
Each district household is entitled to receive two permits free of charge in a 3-year period. Staff will only mail one permit to start with. Residents may call and request the second permit from Solid Waste Services office at 252-399-2823.
The permits will be mailed to property owners. So, if you rent a lot/home in unincorporated area of the county, you will need to contact your landlord to receive your permit. Solid Waste staff will not send the permit to the home address unless the owner lives there.
