What is Family First?
North Carolina’s Temporary Assistance for the Needy Families (TANF) program. This program helps parents support themselves and their families by offering short-term training and other services to increase the chances of employment.
Family First simulates employment and is a work-for-benefits program. It is designed to offer supportive services to assist families with obtaining and maintaining employment.amily
There are several parts to the program:
- A temporary financial assistance program for families experiencing a temporary break in employment due to an unforeseen circumstance
- A short-term cash assistance program for unemployed families or relatives caring for minor family members (children under 18)
- Social work support services to relatives caring for minor family members
Eligibility
- Must be a Wilson County resident.
- Must have a child in the home under the age of 17 at application.
- Must have an income below the 200% of the federal poverty level.
